HIJAB Jokes

Assalamualaikum and hye! I will share a simple jokes which I retrieved from Ayesha (Ayesha1998@aol.com) that is broadcasted on BIC News 20 November 1997.

"Brothers and Sisters,
Although it may seem humorous it can serve as constructive criticism both for the sisters, and the brothers. We learn from this that all those outward actions which Islam requires must be done correctly and with the correct intention, i.e. not for fashion or to fit into a certain group. That is it must all be solely for the sake of Allah (swt). The purpose of this article is not to offend anyone, rather it was written to make a point. Enjoy...
It has been my personal observation that some Muslim girls and women do not realize the significance of hijab.Hijab is Arabic for protection and cover. Some people put a lot of effort into their hijab, yet it serves no purpose. I am referring to the pointless hijab that some girls wear.
The first pointless hijab is referred to as the headband hijab. It is a band of fabric approximately 4 inches wide. It covers the back of the head and allows all the hair to be exposed. It doesn't serve much in terms of modesty, but at least it comes in handy in case of an unexpected tennis match.
The second pointless hijab is the dupetta, also known as the Saran wrap hijab. It covers all the hair, but it is totally transparent. Again it doesn't serve much in terms of modesty, but it keeps the hair nice and fresh.
The third type of hijab is known as the Mickey Mouse Hijab. It is when a girl wears a black scarf and tucks it behind her ear, so that her ears stick out.
We now move to my favorites: the yo-yo hijabs. The first yo-yo hijab, also known as the Benazir Bhutto hijab, is the scarf that keeps falling down and needs to be constantly pulled back up....up, down, up, down, just like a yo-yo. The second yo-yo hijab is also referred to as the convertible hijab. This type of hijab is predominant at any type of social event, i.e. an Aqeeqah, Bismillah party, Ameen party, wedding, etc. This is when an Imam or Qari comes up to the microphone and starts to recite Qur'an. At this point, all the convertible hijabs come up...until he says "Sadaqallahul adheem". I'm not sure, but apparently in some cultures that translates to "Ok sisters, you may now take off your scarves".
I'm sure this may seem odd, but what's even funnier is when people do not anticipate the recitation of Qur'an at a social event, and are forced to be creative and use accessories such as a purse to cover one's hair. I was surprised to see a women hold her purse over her head as "hijab"...as if the multitudes of men surrounding her are not a good enough reason to wear hijab, but some guy reciting du'a compels her to hold a purse over her head. Her friends were more creative...one friend used her dinner napkin.
I was also laughing when I saw the communal hijab---two or more girls draped under one dinner napkin during the recitation of Qur'an. Her other friend was still more creative. She used her coffee saucer on the back of her head. I wasn't sure if it was hijab or a Yamaka. I didn't know if she was a Muslim or a Jew. I felt like going up to her and saying "Shalom alaikum, sister".
And, people should remember that hijab is not just a protection from guys, but from a girl's nafs (ego) as well. It should prevent girls from having to spend hours in front of the mirror doing their hair. But, unfortunately, you see girls in front of the mirror for hours doing their hijab as they would do their hair, with all sorts of elaborate braids and the like. I wanted to go up to a sister and say "Is your hijab naturally curly?" I also felt compelled to go up to another girl and say "pardon me, but is your hijab naturally that color, or did you dye it?"
Well, the point to remember is that some people make an effort to wear hijab, but it is futile, because it is not fulfilling its purpose. It's like using an umbrella with holes in it. Hijab is used for protection from guys as well as from the girl herself, and should not be used as an accessory or for beautifying one's self. Anyway, that's it…."
So, how you guys feel sisters? ;)

What A Non-Muslim Says About Wearing A Hijab?

It basically a survey done 3 members in Canada that open a booth in middle of a mall and ask any non-Muslims to try wearing a hijab.

What make more surprising is that all the women that try the hijab on that day were surprised by how they look after donning the hijab. They think that it is beautiful and of course they looked different.

One of the women were asked what is her religion and she said that she was born in Hindu and she also added that actually she was jealous with people that wear the hijab.

Another women also were asked about what her opinion on hijab and she said, “ I think that it is great, the people that wearing the hijab. A Friend of mine who is Muslim has told me that it is not that you wear because out of being forced, it a choice”.

Besides that, one of the participant also think that it is a proud thing on wearing the hijab as she said that in Canada itself, we don’t see everybody wearing the hijab and it takes a lot of guts to be one of them here.

It somehow fascinating on how the non-Muslims think about hijab. Hijabs is not only to cover the heads but it is also a sign of modesty for those that wear it. Personally, we thinks that those that refuse to wear the hijab is such a wasteful as they didn’t get to feel the beauty of wearing the hijab.

Interestingly, the girl said she acted so as to demonstrate to Muslim girls out there how beautiful if veiled.
Even when some Muslim friends commented that 'simple' (do not worry), the girl known as Yun stated, 'simple lah tu young Muslims now can not stand to follow.'

Hmm, quite bitter statement to digest by some Muslim women today is not it?

History of HIJAB

The history of hijab begins when Assyrian kings in Near East introduced both seclusion of women in the royal harem and the veil. Prostitutes and slaves, however, were told not to veil and were slashed if they disobeyed the law.

In other part of the world, classical Greece, Byzantine Christian, Persia, upper Caste Rajput in India thought that hijab is by hiding one's face and largely living in seclusion.

In Muslim perspective, the hijab history begin in 1st Islamic century when Aisha Abu Bakar's niece, Aisha Talha was asked to veil her face by her husband, Musab. In the 2nd century, the veil become common. It is first used among powerful and rich as status symbol while the rural and nomadic women were not. In Quran prescription, the Holy book of Islam, "to draw their veils over their bosoms" become interpreted by same as an injunction to veil one's hair, neck and ears.

In the 10th century, veil become a common rule. In the Middle Ages numerous laws were developed which most often placed women at a greater disadvantage than in earlier times. In some periods, such as under the Mamluks in Egypt, repeated decrees were issued, urging strictness in veiling and arguing against the right of women to take part in activities outside their home. Ibn al-Hajj in Cairo cautioned the shopkeepers to be careful if women come to buy. If she's in delicate clothes and exposing her wrists, he should turns his back until the women leave peacefully

Intellectuals, reformers and liberals in the 19th century began to denounce women's protective clothing. they felt that Western nation want to push their country toward more western-style society and change women status and abandon the traditional customs.

What is HIJAB?

Hijab

Hijab in English means veil which commonly known as head scarf that covers the head and chest. Hijab is an
Arabic term meaning barrier or partition. However, in Islam it has a broader meaning. Nowadays, hijab is known as the traditional head, face or body covering that usually wore by the women of Middle East and Islamic world. The four major Sunni schools of thought as Hanafi, Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali hold that the entire body of the woman, except her face and hands.

Hijab is derives from the Arabic root حجب which give the means ‘to veil, to seclude, to conceal, to form separation or to mask’. Hijab also be used to refer to the seclusion of women from men in the public areas.
Most often, hijab is worn by Muslim women as a symbol of modesty, privacy and morality. Some women wear full-body garments which only expose their eyes.

Muslim women are required to wear the hijab in front of any men which they are theoretically can be married as the hijab is not obligatory in front of father, brother, grandfathers or uncles. Besides that, Hijab in the sense of veiling is by hanging a curtain or screen between women and men to allow them to speak to each other without changing dress.
