What is HIJAB?

Hijab

Hijab in English means veil which commonly known as head scarf that covers the head and chest. Hijab is an
Arabic term meaning barrier or partition. However, in Islam it has a broader meaning. Nowadays, hijab is known as the traditional head, face or body covering that usually wore by the women of Middle East and Islamic world. The four major Sunni schools of thought as Hanafi, Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali hold that the entire body of the woman, except her face and hands.

Hijab is derives from the Arabic root حجب which give the means ‘to veil, to seclude, to conceal, to form separation or to mask’. Hijab also be used to refer to the seclusion of women from men in the public areas.
Most often, hijab is worn by Muslim women as a symbol of modesty, privacy and morality. Some women wear full-body garments which only expose their eyes. 

Muslim women are required to wear the hijab in front of any men which they are theoretically can be married as the hijab is not obligatory in front of father, brother, grandfathers or uncles. Besides that, Hijab in the sense of veiling is by hanging a curtain or screen between women and men to allow them to speak to each other without changing dress.
